Day by Day

Arrival Day – Welcome to Moshi

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be warmly welcomed by our team and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. After check-in, you’ll meet your mountain guide for a detailed trek briefing and gear check, followed by a relaxing evening as you prepare for the climb.

After an early breakfast, drive to Machame Gate (1,800 m) where you’ll complete park registration. Begin your trek through lush montane rainforest, surrounded by towering trees, moss, and exotic birdlife. The trail steadily climbs for about 5–6 hours before reaching Machame Camp, your first overnight stop nestled in the misty forest.

Wake up to crisp mountain air and begin your ascent through heath and moorland. The trail leads to the Shira Plateau, offering expansive views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding valleys. Today’s hike takes 4–6 hours and ends at Shira Camp, located on an open high-altitude plateau where you’ll rest under a starlit sky.
Today is a key acclimatization day. Trek from Shira Camp up to Lava Tower (4,630 m) for lunch, then descend to Barranco Camp for overnight. This “climb high, sleep low” approach helps your body adjust to the altitude and boosts your summit chances. Along the way, enjoy views of strange plant life and surreal volcanic landscapes.
Start your day by tackling the infamous Barranco Wall, a thrilling scramble that reveals incredible views from the top. After the climb, traverse undulating terrain with beautiful views of glaciers and valleys before reaching Karanga Camp. This is a shorter but vital day that allows more acclimatization time before summit night.
The trail to Barafu Camp is steep and dry, passing through alpine desert with little vegetation. You’ll arrive by early afternoon, giving you time to rest, hydrate, and prepare for the summit push. Eat an early dinner and sleep as best as you can—your ascent to the summit begins at midnight.
At midnight, begin your summit push under the stars. This is the most physically and mentally demanding portion of the trek. Hike past Stella Point (5,756 m) to reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Celebrate with photos and take in the majestic sunrise before descending back to Barafu for a short rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp for your final overnight.
After breakfast, descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll sign out and receive your well-earned summit certificate. Your vehicle will transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi, where a hot shower, delicious meal, and soft bed await. Congratulations—you’ve conquered Kilimanjaro!
