Kilimanjaro Tours
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and meet your guide, who will transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. Settle in, relax after your flight, or explore the vibrant town. In the evening, attend a detailed pre-climb briefing with your guide covering safety, equipment check, altitude tips, and the day-by-day plan. Enjoy dinner and rest well in preparation for the start of your Kilimanjaro adventure
After breakfast, drive to Londorossi Gate for registration. Then continue to the Lemosho trailhead and begin your trek through the lush rainforest. This part of the trail is teeming with wildlife, including monkeys and exotic birds. You’ll trek 3–4 hours uphill to reach Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp. Here you’ll enjoy your first night on the mountain surrounded by towering forest.
Today, the trail climbs steeply through the last of the rainforest and into the heather zone. You’ll gain elevation quickly as you cross rocky ridges and enter the Shira Plateau, formed by ancient volcanic eruptions. After 5–6 hours of trekking, you’ll reach Shira 1 Camp with stunning views of Kibo Peak. Rest, hydrate, and prepare for colder nights ahead.
The trail today is a more relaxed hike across the wide Shira Plateau. You’ll enjoy incredible views of Kibo and Mount Meru in the distance. You may also take an acclimatization hike to the nearby Shira Cathedral. After 3–4 hours of hiking, you’ll arrive at Shira 2 Camp. Spend the afternoon resting or exploring nearby ridges for further acclimatization.
You’ll leave the main trail and head northeast toward Moir Hut, located at the base of the Lent Hills. The route gradually ascends into the high alpine desert zone. Optional afternoon acclimatization hikes to the Lent Hills or surrounding ridges are available. Total trekking time is 4–5 hours. Enjoy a peaceful night at one of Kilimanjaro’s most remote and scenic camps.
From Moir Hut, trek up a ridge and over to the northern slopes of Kilimanjaro. Today’s trail is quiet, with fewer trekkers and expansive views toward Kenya. The trail includes a climb followed by a descent into Buffalo Camp. After 5–6 hours, arrive at the remote and peaceful camp to rest and enjoy dinner under the stars.
Continue across the northern circuit, traversing valleys and alpine ridges. You’ll gain and lose altitude throughout the day, which helps with acclimatization. The scenery is stark but dramatic, with wide views of the rugged Mawenzi Peak. After 4–5 hours of hiking, arrive at Third Cave Camp for dinner and overnight.
This section of the trail continues to the northeast, circling around to a less-traveled camp called Pofu (“buffalo” in Swahili). The day involves a gradual ascent, with dramatic views of the plains below and the slopes of Kilimanjaro looming overhead. After 5–6 hours of trekking, you’ll arrive at Pofu Camp—a quiet, scenic location perfect for rest and acclimatization.
Today’s trek leads across the high alpine desert zone toward School Hut, your final base before the summit. The landscape becomes barren and otherworldly. After 5–6 hours, you’ll arrive at School Hut and spend the afternoon resting, hydrating, and mentally preparing for the summit push. Eat an early dinner and get as much rest as possible.
Your summit attempt begins at midnight. You’ll climb slowly and steadily by headlamp, reaching Gilman’s Point (5,685m) around sunrise. From there, push onward along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak—the highest point in Africa. Celebrate, take photos, then descend back to School Hut for a short break. Continue descending to Millennium Camp for dinner and overnight after 12–14 hours of hiking.
Your final descent takes you through the beautiful montane forest. After 4–5 hours, you’ll arrive at Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your official Kilimanjaro summit certificate. Say farewell to your mountain crew and return by vehicle to your hotel in Moshi. Enjoy a well-earned shower, delicious meal, and the satisfaction of conquering Kilimanjaro via its most immersive route.
