Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where a friendly guide will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. After check-in, take time to rest, explore the area, or enjoy dinner at your lodge. In the evening, attend a pre-climb briefing to meet your trekking team, review the route, and check your gear. Get a good night’s sleep as you prepare to start your Kilimanjaro adventure the next day.
After breakfast, transfer to the Rongai starting point at Nalemoru Gate. The trail begins gently through farmland and pine forest, where you may spot colobus monkeys and exotic birds. As you ascend, the scenery shifts to heathland with wide views across the Kenyan plains. After 3–4 hours of hiking, you’ll arrive at Simba Camp, located on the edge of the moorland zone. Dinner and overnight here as you begin acclimatizing to altitude
Today’s trail ascends gradually through moorland, with occasional views of Mawenzi Peak. After passing Second Cave, you continue east toward the jagged ridges of Mawenzi, gaining altitude steadily. The landscape becomes more open, and the air thinner. After about 5–6 hours of trekking, you’ll reach Kikelewa Camp, a peaceful site in a sheltered valley with sweeping views. Dinner is served early to allow rest and recovery for tomorrow’s steeper climb.
A short but steep climb takes you through alpine meadows and rocky paths. As you gain elevation, vegetation thins and the terrain becomes more rugged. After 3–4 hours of hiking, you’ll arrive at Mawenzi Tarn Camp, nestled beneath the towering Mawenzi Peak. This is one of the most beautiful campsites on Kilimanjaro, set near a glacial lake. Spend the afternoon relaxing or taking short acclimatization walks. Overnight at Mawenzi Tarn.
Today’s trek crosses the high alpine desert between Mawenzi and Kibo, following a steady trail across the Saddle—a vast, lunar-like landscape. Though not steep, the altitude makes the 5–6 hour hike challenging. You’ll arrive at Kibo Hut in the early afternoon, your base camp for the summit attempt. After an early dinner, rest and prepare your gear for the midnight departure. Your guide will provide a final briefing for summit day.
The summit push begins just after midnight. Trekking slowly in the dark over loose scree, you’ll reach Gilman’s Point (5,685m) by sunrise, then continue around the crater rim to Uhuru Peak—the highest point in Africa. Take in the spectacular views and celebrate your achievement. After photos, descend back to Kibo for a short break, then continue down to Horombo Hut. This 12–14-hour day ends with a hot meal and deep rest.
After breakfast, make your final descent through the moorland and lush rainforest, passing Mandara Hut. The trek takes 5–6 hours to reach Marangu Gate. Here, you’ll receive your summit certificate and say farewell to your mountain crew. A vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to Moshi or Arusha for a hot shower, a well-earned rest, and a celebration of your incredible journey to the Roof of Africa.
