Day by Day

Arrival Day – Welcome to Moshi
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be warmly welcomed by our team and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. After check-in, you’ll meet your mountain guide for a detailed trek briefing and gear check, followed by a relaxing evening as you prepare for the climb.
After an early breakfast, you’ll be driven to Marangu Gate (1,860 m) where you’ll register and begin your trek. The trail winds through lush rainforest filled with birdlife, monkeys, and thick vegetation. After 4–5 hours of hiking, you’ll reach Mandara Hut, your first overnight stop. Nearby, you can take a short walk to the scenic Maundi Crater for views of Kenya’s interior.
Today’s trek takes you through a mix of moorland and heath as you ascend past giant lobelias and dramatic volcanic formations. The trail is open and airy, providing expansive views of Mawenzi and the surrounding landscape. After 5–6 hours of hiking, you’ll arrive at Horombo Hut, where you’ll rest and enjoy a warm dinner.
This crucial rest day improves your body’s adaptation to high altitude. You’ll take a light hike to Zebra Rocks (4,000 m) or higher, then return to Horombo Hut for lunch and relaxation. This day helps boost your chances of a successful summit by allowing your body to adjust before reaching extreme altitudes.

After breakfast, begin your ascent into the alpine desert. The trail becomes more rugged as you cross the Saddle, a lunar-like landscape between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. After 6–7 hours of trekking, you’ll reach Kibo Hut, your basecamp for the final summit attempt. Get to bed early as the summit push begins at midnight.

Shortly after midnight, begin your climb under a sky full of stars. This is the most physically and mentally challenging part of the trek. You’ll pass Gilman’s Point (5,685 m) and Stella Point (5,756 m) before finally reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your achievement with photos and take in the breathtaking views. After a short stay at the summit, begin your descent to Kibo Hut for a break and light meal. Then continue down to Horombo Hut for a well-earned night of rest after 12–14 hours of total hiking.
Your final day on the mountain involves a steady descent through moorland and lush forest as you retrace your steps to Marangu Gate. Here, you’ll receive your summit certificate, a memento of your accomplishment. Your driver will transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi, where you can relax, shower, and celebrate your success.
